CCTV infrared lighting / IR illuminators CCTV & Megapixel IP series
Benefits on using infrared illumination with cctv / IP camera installation would far outweight its capital outlay because:
- Well lighted video has less noise. Noise usually shows up as small dots flashing around, once mixed with the actual signal, cannot be easily taken out. It consumes extra bandwith, drains away CPU cycles during encode (encoder tries to encode noise as well), resulting in a larger file size and lesser quality video. Test result shows that there can be 80~90% savings on bandwidth and on storage with infrared lighting installed to brighten up the picture. Moreover, the resulting video quality will be much higher.
- Infrared lighting helps to reduce glare from headlights and street lights. Dark areas will get brightened up, reducing the contrast ratio of the picture, making it easier for the CMOS or CCD sensor to compensate. The resulting picture quality would be much improved.
- IP cameras are less sensitive to light because their pixel sizes are much smaller than the regular cctv cameras, therefore, light absorption is less. Their bandwidth usage and file sizes are much higher. With better treatment on ambient light, cost savings on bandwidth usage and file storage would be high.
